A few years ago, after working for many years in the corporate world, I decided I wanted my own business. I wanted what everyone else wants: to work out of my home and to set my own hours. I also wanted a six-figure income every year. The first thing I did was assess my strengths and try to figure out a way to turn them into a home-based business that paid me six-figures per year. I have great people skills. I have a strong mechanical and structural background. I’m ambitious and self-motivated. I knew I could make a success out of a business but I needed the right business. I researched the market in my city and found there were only 26 home inspection companies in my city. I started a home inspection company. With the support of my wife, Renee, we made it happen. Over a short period of time, my business grew and kept growing even though, within two years of being in business, the number of home inspection companies in my city grew from 26 to 86. There were more than enough home inspectors to go around.
National Epoxy Floors got its start with a suggestion from my father-in-law. For Christmas, my wife and I decided to give him an epoxy garage floor. We soon found that there was only one company in our city who installed epoxy floors and they were very expensive!
I decided to educate myself and install
the floor. My father-in-law loved the floor
so much he went out and had cabinets made
so his entire garage looked finished. My
father-in-law said, “John, you are
missing the boat by not being in the epoxy
floor business.” We’ve expanded our product line since the beginning. We now have thirteen base colors to choose from. We offer epoxies and urethanes, smooth finishes and granite-look finishes. We like the variety and so do our customers. The products we use are approved for use in our military and private air hangers. We have something for everyone and we can make it affordable for many who thought they could not afford it.
We found that many homeowners are greatly
bothered by their ugly garages. If given
the opportunity to make it look beautiful
without breaking the bank, it is an easy
choice for them to make. Of course, we also
found that some people are spending major
dollars on their garages. They paint the
walls, install lighting and cabinetry. All
would most likely agree that they have added
value to their homes by beautifying their
garages.
We will continue to run our epoxy flooring business here in Omaha, however, we are now expanding our business into a non-franchised opportunity for others. We want to share our proven success with others but not at the high entrance fees that franchises require. We make it affordable and easy to get started!
